Washington, DC — Today, the US EPA Anunciado a proposed delay of vehicle criteria pollutant standards, which would force higher costs on drivers, cause and exacerbate chronic diseases caused by tailpipes, and lead to job losses in the automotive industry.

In response, GreenLatinos Sustainable Communities Policy Advisor Andrea Marpillero-Colomina, PhD., said the following:

“Latinos are already pollution burdened by tailpipe emissions and dearly pay the price. Delaying these safeguards means more pollution in our neighborhoods right now—and more asthma attacks, more hospital visits, and more families struggling with medical bills. Communities will pay the price, while this government and automakers continue to be unaccountable for the harms caused by vehicular pollution.”

EPA’s own analysis shows that rolling back vehicle standards would sharply increase harmful pollution, driving preventable illness and premature death. There is no gray area here: rolling back these standards will cut lives short and create suffering for countless others.
