FRESNO, Calif. — Earlier this week, California voters overwhelmingly approved Proposition 50, affirming protection from continued environmental and climate degradation for Latino communities. It will also create greater access to public lands, oceans, and waters, thereby improving the physical and mental well-being of our communities.

In reaction to Tuesday’s election results, GreenLatinos California Program Director, Pedro Hernández, releases the following statement:

“Yesterday’s election reaffirmed that Latinos and Californians remain steadfast in defending their civil, environmental, and human rights. While we take a moment to celebrate this collective strength, we must also renew our commitment to holding elected officials accountable to the communities they serve. As the nation faces the longest government shutdown in its history, this moment reminds us that our resilience and unity are more important than ever in shaping a just and equitable future.” - Pedro Hernández, GreenLatinos California, Program Director.
