GreenLatinos Announces Board of Directors Expansion, New Board Chairperson

Washington, DC – Today, GreenLatinos announces the expansion of its Board of Directors with the addition of Yvette Arellano of Texas Environmental Justice Advocacy Services (T.E.J.A.S), and the designation of long-time GreenLatinos Board member Larry Gonzalez, Founding Principal at the Raben Group and Green 2.0, as Board chairperson.

GreenLatinos plays an essential role in the climate justice movement by providing a convening space for Latinx environmental and conservation advocates. It will announce the addition of its fifth board member in early 2021.

Arellano brings years of grassroots organizing experience and policy expertise, specifically on toxics and a background in organizational management to GreenLatinos. She is a research and policy liaison based in Houston, Texas. Her strategic vision and leadership on behalf of the communities she serves alongside took her to the United Nations COP21 in Paris and will be an asset to the GreenLatinos network.

“I appreciate the opportunity to bring a grassroots perspective onto the GreenLatinos Board to strengthen groundswell and community-based solutions toward a just transition,” said Yvette Arellano.

Gonzalez, who joined the GreenLatinos Board of Directors in September 2016, assumes the chairmanship of the Board on an interim basis. Gonzalez replaces GreenLatinos Founding President Mark Magaña in his role, as Magaña leaves the board to focus on his CEO duties. Gonzalez joined The Raben Group in 2006 and is a leader in the LatinStrategies practice group and Green 2.0, an advocacy campaign and initiative to increase racial diversity among environmental organizations, NGOs, government agencies and philanthropy. An intersectional leader, Gonzalez will work to ensure the mission and values of GreenLatinos remains as the organization grows.

The GreenLatinos Board of Directors include GreenLatinos co-founder Andrea Delgado, Government Affairs Director at the United Farm Workers Foundation, and Jennifer Allen, SVP of Community and Civic Engagement at the League of Conservation Voters (LCV).
