Share Your Story: Join the Movement to Cut Methane Pollution

Leer en español aquí

The oil and gas industry is one of the biggest sources of methane pollution, a dangerous climate pollutant that also harms the health of our communities. But behind every statistic are real people, families, and neighborhoods dealing with the impacts.

That’s why we’re inviting people like you to share your story.

Whether you’ve experienced the health impacts of living near oil and gas sites, or you simply believe that protecting our air and climate is the right thing to do, your voice matters.

Your story can help hold decision-makers accountable, push for stronger protections, and show the human side of this issue. Together, we can fight back against attacks on common-sense methane pollution safeguards and demand action to keep our air clean and our communities safe.

How You Can Share Your Story

We know everyone has different ways they feel comfortable speaking out. That’s why there are several easy options to make your voice heard: See the full toolkit here.

Record a Selfie Video

A short, direct-to-camera video is one of the most powerful ways to share your message. Just grab your phone, find a quiet space with good lighting, and speak from the heart. Your video can be as simple as:

"Hi, my name is [Name], I live in [Community/State], and methane pollution is impacting families like mine. I want our leaders to protect our air and health, not roll back protections for the oil and gas industry."

Videos can be just 30 seconds long. Speak clearly, be yourself, and know your voice makes a difference.

2. Send a Voice Memo

If you’d rather not be on camera, that’s okay! You can record a quick voice memo on your phone. We’ll pair your audio with visuals that help bring your story to life.

"Hi, my name is [Name], I live in [Community/State], and methane pollution is impacting families like mine. I want our leaders to protect our air and health, not roll back protections for the oil and gas industry."

Memos can be just 30 seconds long. Speak clearly, be yourself, and know your voice makes a difference.

3. Submit a Written Testimony & Photo

Some stories are best told in writing. You can share a few sentences about your experience or why you care, along with a photo if you're comfortable. This can be featured on blogs, social media, or other platforms to help amplify your voice.

Not sure what to say? Here are a few prompts to help you get started:

  • How has methane pollution from oil and gas affected you or your community?
  • Why do you support stronger protections against methane pollution?

What do you want your lawmakers to do about this issue?

4. Write a Letter to the Editor or Opinion Piece

A powerful way to raise awareness locally is to publish a letter or opinion piece in your local newspaper. These written stories help put a personal face to the issue and show decision-makers that people in their own communities care.

A simple example could be:

"As a resident of [Community], I’ve seen how methane pollution puts our health at risk. Instead of siding with polluters, I want our leaders to protect our air and ensure a healthy future for our families."

How to Submit Your Content

Ready to share your story? Here’s how:

  1. Upload your video, Voice Memo, Written testimony, and images to this Google Drive folder.
  2. Fill out this Google Form to give us permission to use your content.

Content is accepted on a rolling basis, so if yours is ready, go ahead and send it in, we’d love to feature it!

Why Your Story Matters

Methane pollution isn’t just a technical policy issue; it’s about our health, our climate, and our future. But too often, the voices of impacted communities are drowned out by industry lobbyists and politicians who put profits first.

We believe that when everyday people speak up, it changes the conversation. Your story can help:
✅ Show the real impacts of methane pollution
✅ Build public pressure to defend strong methane protections
✅ Inspire others to get involved

We need to remind our leaders: cutting methane pollution is common sense—and the majority of Americans agree. It’s time to put health, safety, and clean air ahead of corporate profits.
