GreenLatinos Condemns DHS Immigration Crackdown Threatening Civil Rights and Environmental Justice Priorities for Frontline Communities

WASHINGTON –– In light of the Trump administration’s Department of Homeland Security escalation of immigration enforcement operations in Minnesota and across the nation, GreenLatinos issues the following statement:

“Our ability to protect public health, advance climate solutions, and build nature-abundant communities depends on a strong democracy that upholds the rule of law and respects fundamental civil and human rights,” said Mark Magaña, Founding President and CEO of GreenLatinos. “We unequivocally condemn violence in all forms, and we condemn DHS’s reckless escalation of enforcement actions that are terrorizing immigrant communities, suppressing First Amendment rights, and inflicting lasting trauma on families and workers nationwide. These actions are part of a broader vicious campaign toundermine democratic norms, erode public trust, and put lives at risk.”

“Congress must use its full oversight and appropriations authority to stop these abuses,” Magaña continued. “Any funding must be conditioned to prohibit militarized enforcement tactics, require transparency and independent investigations into deaths and civil-rights violations, enforce strict compliance with constitutional protections, and hold agency leadership—including Secretary Kristi Noem—accountable for unlawful and dangerous actions. Our public dollars should never be used to fund fear, violence, or the erosion of our democracy.”

GreenLatinos stands in solidarity with impacted families, community leaders, and organizations calling for an immediate de-escalation of enforcement actions and a shift toward humane, accountable policies rooted in compassion, dignity, and safety.
