GreenLatinos’ Statement on the Polluters over People Bill, H.R. 1

WASHINGTON— Following today’s vote on H.R. 1 in the U.S. House of Representatives, GreenLatinos Founding President and CEO Mark Magaña released the following statement:

“H.R. 1 is the latest giveaway from MAGA Republicans to the fossil fuel industry. The Polluters over People bill creates dangerous loopholes and gives free handouts to the oil, gas, and mining industry, while completely disregarding the existence of cheap, clean energy that must inevitably replace the use of dirty fossil fuels. The passage of such a bill is dangerous and illogical. We cannot afford any other setbacks that will continue to put our communities in harm’s way by gutting our bedrock environmental and public health laws and ignoring the climate crisis — all in the name of fast-tracking polluter projects. It is unacceptable that Members of Congress, especially those representing districts with significant Latino/a/e communities, would vote for more asthma, more cancer, and more pollution in their communities. We urge the Senate and President to hold the line against this polluter giveaway.”
