GreenLatinos applaud guidance on clean vehicle tax credits that will aid Latino/a/e and other communities of color, warn EVs are not a standalone solution

WASHINGTON - Today, the Biden Administration released proposed guidance for a new clean vehicle tax credit that will lower costs for consumers.

In response to this announcement, GreenLatinos Sustainable Communities Program Director, Andrea Marpillero-Colomina, issued the following statement:

“The EV tax credit, approved as part of the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act, offers households crucial financial support needed to transition to EVs by providing up to $7,500 in tax credits. Among Latino/es, who earn less, pay more for credit, including auto loans, and are more likely to directly face health impacts from vehicle pollution, creating new incentives that make it possible to purchase EVs is especially urgent.

Let us be clear on the fact that EVs are not a standalone solution to resolving the damaging impacts of transportation pollution – the biggest contributor of U.S. GHG emissions. But the more gasoline-powered cars we can replace with EVs, the better for our lungs and our planet’s future."
