Following the harrowing events that unfolded in Uvalde, Texas, last week, GreenLatinos Founding President and CEO Mark Magaña released the following statement:

Last week, we learned about another horrendous and preventable mass shooting incident at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

The entire GreenLatinos family is heartbroken. It's inconceivable that any individual can legally purchase a military-grade assault weapon, walk into a school, and take the lives of 19 children and two adults at a place of learning, most of whom are from the Latino/a/x community. We offer our condolences, support, and love to the innocent lives lost, the mourning families and comunidad, and those affected by this senseless tragedy.

We cannot truly achieve any sort of liberation of all people without truly addressing issues like gun violence, impacting our communities in truly horrific ways.

GreenLatinos calls for action from municipal, county, and federal officials to stop senseless violence like the shooting seen in Uvalde. As defenders of our land, air, water, and people, we reiterate our commitment to ensure we pass commonsense public policy that ends gun violence. Enough is enough - we need action now.

Luego de los desgarradores eventos que se desarrollaron en Uvalde, Tejas, el presidente fundador y director ejecutivo de GreenLatinos, Mark Magaña, emitió la siguiente declaración:

La semana pasada, nos enteramos de otro incidente de tiroteo horrendo y prevenible en la Escuela Primaria Robb en Uvalde, Tejas.

Toda la familia GreenLatinos está desconsolada. Es inconcebible que cualquier individuo pueda comprar legalmente un arma de asalto, entrar a una escuela y quitarle la vida a 19 niños y dos adultos en un lugar de aprendizaje. Desafortunadamente, la mayoría de las victimas son de la comunidad latina. Ofrecemos nuestras condolencias, apoyo, y amor a las vidas inocentes perdidas. Tambien estamos pensando en las familias y comunidad de luto, y tambien a los afectados por esta tragedia sin sentido.

Realmente no podemos lograr ningún tipo de liberación de todas las personas sin abordar verdaderamente problemas como la violencia armada, que afecta a nuestras comunidades de maneras verdaderamente horribles.

GreenLatinos hace un llamado a la acción de los funcionarios municipales, del condado y federales para detener la violencia sin sentido como el tiroteo visto en Uvalde. Como defensores de nuestra tierra, aire, agua y gente, reiteramos nuestro compromiso de garantizar que aprobemos una política pública de sentido común que ponga fin a la violencia armada. Ya es suficiente, necesitamos acción ahora.
