WASHINGTON — In response to the Trump administration’s rollback of Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards for cars, SUVs, and heavy-duty pickups and vans, GreenLatinos released the following statement from Sustainable Communities Program Manager, Juan Roberto Madrid:
“The Trump administration continues its attacks on clean energy, minority and low-income families with already tight budgets by rolling back standards that save families hundreds of dollars each year at the pump, while also working to reduce harmful tailpipe emissions. Latino and low-income families in the U.S. face significant transportation costs, with lower-income households spending about 30% of their after-tax income on transportation. Latinos also have longer commutes and spend a higher proportion of their income on fuel costs. The CAFE rollbacks will environmentally and economically hurt our communities.”
