GreenLatinos Statement on the Nomination of Debra Haaland for Secretary of the Interior

Washington, DC –  GreenLatinos, our committed Board of Directors, and active members,  want to express our enthusiastic support for the nomination of Representative Debra Haaland, from the Enchanted state of New Mexico, for Secretary of the Interior. When confirmed, Rep. Haaland would be the first Indigenous person to run any Cabinet-level Department in our nation’s history. Given the Department of the Interior’s trustee obligations to Indigenous Peoples, Tribal Nations, Native Hawaiians and Native Alaskans, this nomination of Rep. Haaland signals a vital step forward for the "usual way of doing business" in Washington DC. As chairperson of the House Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests, and Public Lands, Rep. Haaland is fully qualified, capable, and ready to become the 54th Secretary of the Interior to ensure that traditionally overlooked communities like our gente, our raza may now be authentically put at the forefront of the conservation  conversation.

As a committed active group of latinos, indio hispanos, y Mexicanos we stand by this nomination with great pride and excitement.
