Meet the Team

Bethie Loewenthal Torres

Urban Greening Initiative Communications Fellow

Bethie Loewenthal Torres was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. She is passionate about telling nuanced stories about underrepresented and historically marginalized communities.

Previously, Bethie worked as an Audio Producer at Latino USA, creating audio stories that resonate with the broader U.S. Latino population. She also worked as a communications and research fellow ​with NOAA and the National Weather Service. She led a ​field research initiative focused on climate risks impacting migrant populations in the U.S.-Mexico border region. 

Bethie holds a master’s degree in Latin American and Border Studies from the University of Texas at El Paso and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Maryland, College Park. In her free time, she enjoys baking and exploring local parks.
