Under the direction of the Michigan Chapter and “Beyond Coal” Campaign, the West Michigan Clean Energy Organizer is responsible for recruiting, engaging, and motivating large numbers of new people to take repeated action which will further our “Building West Michigan Power” campaign objectives:
- Retire West Michigan’s remaining coal plants and ensure they are replaced through a just transition to clean energy;
- Challenge fossil fuels, mitigate energy burden for Consumers Energy’s most impacted customers, and make clean electricity more affordable and accessible;
- Grow and strengthen the movement for clean energy in the region.
The West Michigan Clean Energy Organizer works with national and chapter program staff to develop strategies and priorities and travels to relevant communities and locations to implement campaign plans. Identifies and builds alliances with other organizations that can influence decision-makers. The West Michigan Clean Energy Organizer coordinates a broad, volunteer-based citizen education effort on energy issues throughout the region.
