Status: 675-hour AmeriCorps Service Term

Program Description:
Join the Southwest Conservation Corps’ intern team and help the US Forest Service carry out its mission of "caring for the land and serving people"!
The Recreation Program oversees trails, roads, McPhee Reservoir, Lizard Head Wilderness, and other recreation facilities on the Dolores Ranger District of the San Juan National Forest. This program is in need of local talent interested in learning more about the multiple uses of our national forests. This individual will focus on the maintenance and improvement of local trail systems as well as developed recreation sites. The individual will work with experienced recreation and trail crew member as well as gain exposure to other programs throughout the Dolores Ranger District.
Essential functions and responsibilities include:
- Engaging in maintenance activities
- Work in challenging terrain and weather
- Work in a safe and professional manner.
General Qualifications:
This position requires individual to lift more than 25 pounds, hike up to 6 miles a day in challenging terrain and weather conditions. The individual should be able to work safely and effectively with a crew, follow crew boss directions as well as be independently prepared each day to work in a physically demanding position. Prior to starting this position, a government security background clearance will be required.
