Summary: American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service, is seeking two (2) Members to work directly with Point Reyes staff and assist with carpentry, roofing, rebuild, planning, and woodworking projects on historic properties throughout the park unit.

Location: Point Reyes National Seashore (PORE), Marin County, California
Point Reyes National Seashore is located along the west coast of California approximately 30 miles north of San Francisco. Point Reyes Station, Inverness, and Inverness Park are the nearest towns to park headquarters, and cities including Petaluma, Novato, and San Rafael are within commuting range. Park headquarters is located at 1 Bear Valley Rd., Point Reyes Station, CA.

Living Allowance: The ACE Member is expected to contribute ~40 hours/week and will receive a living allowance of $599/week to offset the costs of food and incidental expenses, dispersed bi-weekly.
Housing: Park housing will be provided for ACE Members located outside of the commuting area or for whom commuting is impracticable, at no cost for the duration of the individual placement. A personal vehicle is required for this position.
AmeriCorps: This position may be eligible for a 675-hour AmeriCorps Education Award $2,417.14 upon successful completion of service hours. Additional enrollment and volunteer service is required.
Scheduling: Daytime schedule will typically be 10 hour days, 4 days per week. (May be subject to change.)
Position Description: This position is within the Division of Integrated Resource Management at Point Reyes National Seashore, in Marin County California. The incumbent will work with the Seashore's Historic Preservation Team under the supervision of the Exhibit Specialist. The work consists of shop, and fieldwork on structures listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The position is geared toward hands-on treatment of historic structures and preservation practices as they apply to the carpentry and millwork trades, and will involve working with the park preservation team on this year's projects.
This year's major projects will include replacement of wood shingle roofs at historic interpretative ranch sites. This will also include barn stabilization and window restoration opportunities. Members will develop hands-on techniques in historic material repair and conservation on structures ranging from historic agricultural buildings, horse barns, and a National Historic Landmark Lifeboat Station. Lastly, another major project is the rebuild of a collapsed historic ranch barn. TTAP participants will have the chance to assist with assessing the site and developing the rebuild plans for this undertaking.
This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This could include gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.
Public Land Corps Hiring Authority: Members serving under this agreement may be eligible for a hiring authority upon completion of their term of service.
- Members must be US citizen or Permanent Resident, as required to comply with U.S. government contracts
- Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.
- Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group.
- A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record (documentation to be provided upon request).
- Willing to undergo and must pass required criminal history checks.
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

- Competitive applicants for this position can hold or be pursuing a minimum of a high school diploma and/or have relevant experience in subject areas such as construction trades, use of hand and power tools.
- Knowledge of one or more trade practices, such as masonry, carpentry, roofing, mechanics, and/or painting.
- Familiarity with construction and craftsmanship.
- Basic familiarity with common factors in deterioration of buildings and structures.
- Ability and willingness to use and care for common hand tools and portable or stationary power tools associated with the trade (e.g., hammers, saws, drills, planers, etc.)
- Deep interest in preserving history.
- A career interest in building trade skills and/or historic preservation.
- Is comfortable working outside in varying weather conditions and at heights.
- Have a willingness to work hard and get dirty.
- Have a serious attitude toward safety all day, every day.
- Have the ability to think critically and creatively.
