As the leading conservation organization working to unite people to protect America’s wild places, The Wilderness Society (TWS) envisions a future where people and wild nature flourish together, meeting the challenges of a rapidly changing planet. Our principles include striving for equity and justice in all we do, seeking to reflect the many communities with whom we work, and viewing access to nature as a basic right. To achieve our mission, vision and be true to our principles, we must work in new, transformative ways.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Strategic Partnerships Manager will lead the Eastern Region in the development of relationships and the building of coalitions needed to move the region towards its long-term goals and vision.   This vision consists of a broad and diverse coalition of organizations working towards shared conservation goals, including but not limited to landscape connectivity, food and land sovereignty, climate justice, water protection and more. The Strategic Partnerships Manager will prioritize building trust-based partnerships with Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) led conservation organizations and tribal nations, as well as broadening and deepening relationships with rural communities, social and economic justice activists, accessibility, labor groups – while continuing to engage with traditional conservation and environmental allies.

The Strategic Partnerships Manager will support priority landscapes within the Eastern region in assessing the communities, non-profits, tribal governments and agencies that the landscape engages with, identifying new partnerships which can advance program goals, and diversifying the partners and priorities that the region’s program work supports. This role will also work to align the priorities of the diverse coalitions in which they work with The Wilderness Society’s national initiatives and vice versa.

We seek the guidance of Native American and Indigenous peoples to effectively advocate for the protection of culturally significant lands and the preservation of language and culture. We strive to support actions that respect the priorities, traditional knowledge, interests and concerns of Native American and Indigenous peoples to ensure a more just and equitable future.
