Location: Las Vegas office with extensive travel throughout Clark County and some travel throughout and outside the state of Nevada

Schedule: Flexible 40-hours per week with frequent weekend and evening work, with the ability to work from home as duties allow

Purpose of Position

The Springs Stewardship Coordinator will work closely with the Southern Nevada Director to implement a community science program focused on engaging volunteers to access, monitor, and conduct basic assessments of springs located in southern Nevada in the following ways:

• This position will entail implementing a community science program focused on engaging volunteers to access, monitor, and conduct basic assessments of springs located in southern Nevada.
• Lead and support volunteer stewardship trips in southern Nevada’s backcountry, with safety and care of volunteers the top priority, including pre- and post-trip logistics, packing, unloading and cleaning, and volunteer data entry and reporting.
• Supervise Springs Stewardship Crew Leader and AmeriCorps crew members who will monitor springs with volunteers and independently, including hiring and scheduling work hitches to take into account seasonal accessibility, agency needs, transportation, and grant deliverables, and working with fellow staff to ensure coverage and mutual support.
• Train or schedule the appropriate instructor to train in springs stewardship methods, safety protocol and appropriate first aid, Leave No Trace, vehicle safety, workplace safety and field safety, and ensure all projects are scheduled and staffed, forms are completed, and reports are turned in on time.
• Provide basic spring assessment survey training for volunteers and crew. Coordinate experts to provide additional trainings on advanced spring assessment methods for staff and volunteer leaders.
• Collaborate with the Communications Team to recruit volunteers through education programs, presentations, community events, and print, social, and news media.
• Work with Southern Nevada Director to maintain certain grants, including application, budgeting, and reporting, ensuring deliverables are met, and pinpointing potential funding sources.
• Represent the organization in partnerships and working relationships with government agencies, businesses, and community organizations.

Skills and Abilities

• Strong interpersonal skills, team-oriented approach, and ability to work with people from different backgrounds and experiences.
• Excellent attention to detail, critical thinking, and organizational skills.
• Valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
• Intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite. Database experience is helpful.
• Ability to hike for up to ten hours with a 25-pound backpack and ability to sit for up to four hours at a time. Must have personal hiking and camping equipment and be self-sufficient in the backcountry whether with a group or alone.

Experience and Education

• High school diploma or GED required. Degree in a science field or equivalent experience is helpful.
• At least one year in a supervisory position (can include volunteer supervision). Volunteer or crew management experience is helpful.

Compensation: $40,000 to $50,000, plus generous benefits package including 100% company-paid health/vision/dental premiums and long-term disability premiums, IRA match, and paid time off package including 14 annual Holidays, 12 accrued Vacation Days, and 12 accrued Sick and Wellness Days.
