The Rocky Mountain Office is seeking an undergraduate student for one part- or full-time policy and legislation internship during spring 2023. This is a paid position. This is a remote role, but the successful candidate will ideally work in-person at the state capitol on occasion during significant stages of the legislative process.

The Spring Policy & Legislation Intern will be a member of Earthjustice’s Rocky Mountain Regional Office based in Denver, Colorado. The Intern will support the implementation of administrative and legislative strategies in Colorado, focusing on issues relating to environmental justice, oil and gas regulation, and pollution reduction.
Under the supervision of the Colorado Policy Counsel, the Spring Policy & Legislation will:
- Conduct research on a range of environmental policy issues
- Track, analyze and draft summary briefs of introduced legislation
- Participate in coalition meetings and stakeholder processes
- Assist with the development of advocacy materials, such as fact sheets and messaging documents
- Support outreach to community organizations and to members of the public
- Attend notable events at the state capitol, including meetings and committee hearings (preferred, but not required)
- Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program. Programs that focus on Political Science, Public Policy, Government Affairs, Environmental Science, or a related field are preferred.
- Must commit to at least 20 hours/week.
- Passion for the environment and commitment to environmental justice are essential.
- Detail oriented, with good organizational skills.
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills.
- Awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds, and orientations.
- An understanding of or experience with legislative process (preferred, but not required)
Internships at Earthjustice include a stipend. The total stipend amount will be calculated when the length of the internship is determined.
