The Senior Manager for Justice and Equity will be responsible for supporting the expansion and integration of UCS JEDI strategy and program. In collaboration with the Chief Justice & Equity Officer, the Senior Manager will support the development of JEDI-focused training, a restorative justice framework, employee resource group support and in coordination with the People & Culture team, employee-engagement and non-disciplinary counseling. The Senior Manager will also support the cultivation of internal and external stakeholders by uplifting and embodying UCS JEDI values in all aspects of our work.
•Assist with development of sustained anti-racism, Justice, Equity Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) and Environmental Justice (EJ) education for staff, National Advisory Board (NAB) and board members, including the development of JEDI-focused onboarding and ongoing staff education program.
•Assist with creating systems to coordinate, track and evaluate employee JEDI participation and progress through performance management and strategic evaluation, learning and lesson sharing.
•Assist the CJEO in providing integration guidance of JEDI into campaign plans, projects, policy development and recommendations, consistent with organizational resources and UCS racial equity plan.
•Work with scientists and campaign staff to strengthen and expand equity, justice and anti-racist practices in UCS research and campaigns by staying abreast of and lifting up EJ priorities, questions and interests to UCS leadership, programs and campaigns staff, and board and NAB members.
•Act as a thought leader and partner to Science Network staff and other UCS staff who are establishing and/or expanding partnerships with EJ groups, BIPOC networks and institutions and bodies such as HBCUs, HSIs, Tribal Colleges, Congressional Black Caucus, Green Latinos, Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, National Society of Black Engineers, etc.
•Partner with UCS leadership and staff in EJ fora and conferences both domestically and globally, including equity-focused conferences.
•Work with the CJEO and People & Culture team to ensure UCS’s hiring, on-boarding, and management practices align with UCS JEDI goals.
•Assist with the building and management of JEDI consultant relationships and maintain JEDI consultant and resource referral bank (consisting of coaching, education and facilitation supporting services for early career advancement, book and article references, businesses led by underserved segments of the population that UCS can engage with, etc.).
•Along with the CJEO, be a trusted support resource able to uplift and help resolve issues of concern to BIPOC and historically marginalized staff by providing resources for an inclusive workplace, with a particular focus on junior staff needing extra support; under the direction of the CJEO/People & Culture department apply concepts of restorative justice to conflict management where appropriate.
•Help to facilitate JEDI-related professional growth offerings.
•Liaise with and coordinate UCS affinity groups, team JEDI leaders and their ongoing activities.
•Work with individual UCS leadership to identify JEDI priorities, gaps and opportunities and develop concrete plans to initiate, deepen and expand environmental equity and justice work.
•Support the CJEO and the Executive Team, lead to the Board JEDI Advisory Committee.
Qualifications and Experience
•5-7 years of experience in JEDI focused work
•Superior project management and collaboration skills
•Strong interpersonal, leadership, problem-solving and mentoring skills
•Good facilitation skills with the ability to have and facilitate difficult conversations with staff at all levels
•Excellent organizational skills
•Excellent communication skills
•Experience working with and maintaining positive relationships with EJ organizations
•Experience with community organizing
•Overnight travel up to 25%
•Master’s degree (longer experience may be substituted for degree).
•Strong analytic skills with the ability to compile, research, and analyze information and then draw insights and influence data-driven decisions
This is a full-time remote position. For those who meet all position requirements, the salary range is $101,931-$114,670. UCS offers excellent benefits and a rewarding work environment.
