Greenpeace believes that a healthy democracy is a precondition for a healthy environment. Our democracy should be our best tool to advance climate solutions, ensure environmental equity and hold corporations accountable, but it has been hijacked by the corrupting influence of big money in our political system.  A rash of recent anti-voter measures in too many states are designed to make it harder for people, especially the BIPOC to exercise their freedom to vote.  And a new wave of anti-protest legislation  seeks to shrink democratic space, deny the right to protest, and silence the dissent that makes a democracy thrive.  Greenpeace is a national organization with interest in building our footprint at the grassroots level especially in priority democracy campaign states.

Greenpeace is hiring a Senior Democracy Campaigner to lead our grassroots relational organizing efforts on voting rights and the right to protest.  The campaigner will implement a variety of grassroots strategies and campaigns to  advance our democracy campaign goals and other initiatives.

The Senior Democracy Campaigner will work with Greenpeace volunteers and supporters,  coalition partners and movement allies to plan joint strategies to defeat new voter suppression measures, circumvent those already passed, and push back against the introduction and passage of state-level anti-protest bills.  The campaigner will train and build capacity of volunteers and state-based allies, develop campaign materials, issue updates, action alerts and media materials needed to implement the campaign at state level. The Senior Democracy Campaigner is responsible for expanding relationships on the ground with BIPOC communities and will serve as the vital link connecting Greenpeace’s national democracy campaign with local/state efforts.

The ideal candidate must be a team player who is passionate about growing the community and working at the intersectionality of democracy and Greenpeace’s climate solution goals. The ideal candidate will be energetic, enjoy being around people, is result oriented and self motivated with experience engaging volunteers and community groups in action and advocacy and has demonstrated experience working and building trust with BIPOC communities. The campaigner will be a good listener, love collaboration and determined to make an immediate impact leading to transformative systemic change.
