Who We Are: Friends of the Earth (FOE) is a national not for profit environmental organization that strives for a healthier and more just world. We push for the reforms that are needed. It’s an approach that has worked for five decades to produce important victories that help protect our planet and its people. We’re part of Friends of the Earth International, a federation of groups working in more than 70 countries on today’s most urgent environmental and social issues.
Friends of the Earth is committed to justice and equality. We value diversity at all levels of the organization and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We believe that a range of perspectives makes our team more creative, flexible, and impactful.
What We Are Looking For: Are you a seasoned campaigner with strong organizing, leadership, and communication skills? Are you looking to contribute to successful campaigns and push them even farther? Are you passionate about collaboratively designing and implementing campaign plans pressuring companies on agriculture and pesticides in relation to biodiversity loss and climate change? Do you have the desire to work with colleagues and allies to collectively mobilize a movement to end the use of toxic pesticides that threaten people, pollinators, and the planet?
If so, this is the position for you. We want you to succeed, and we want to pay you a competitive wage that is in line with your experience. The salary range for this full-time remote role is $79,000-$85,000. This position is part of the Nonprofit Professional Employees Union (NPEU) at Friends of the Earth.
Who You Are:
Transformational and Authentic Leader: You are a passionate social change activist with an ability to mobilize people to take bold action. You will build effective, broad-based coalitions and advocacy strategies to advance campaign objectives. You will co-design and oversee implementation of outside pressure campaign tactics including digital, communications and organizing strategies including direct actions. You will support research to be used for crafting campaign strategy or for specific campaign goals and activities.
Relationship Builder: You are a creative thinker and a believer in building people power to achieve system change. You will engage with companies, investors, and policymakers on the social and environmental harms of pesticide-intensive agriculture and the need for stronger private and public policy.
Collaborative Team Member: You’re a team player with a collaborative mindset and an ability to work dynamically both independently and as part of a team. You will work with the team to develop and implement high impact campaigns designed to shift company supply chains away from toxic pesticides and into organic and ecologically regenerative farming.
Strong Communicator and Results Oriented: You have excellent interpersonal communication skills. You will write and review compelling communications materials for FOE supporters, funders, allies, and press along with other teams. You will represent FOE as a spokesperson with media and at public events.
Required Qualifications:

- A passion for action on the environment and a commitment to social justice.
- Understanding of the industrial agriculture system; the intersections between food, climate, and biodiversity; the connection of food justice to racial justice; and the benefits of organic and ecologically regenerative farming systems.
- Ability to balance and effectively prioritize across a wide range of campaign activities including advocacy, online and offline organizing, public speaking, coalition work, research, and communications.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and comfort with presenting material to a wide range of audiences, including civil society organizations, funders, supporters, journalists, companies, and government officials.
- Excellent decision-making, team building, time management, prioritization, and networking skills; demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and creativity.
- Ability to occasionally travel domestically.
