About the job
Are you looking to make a difference? Oceana is looking for a key member of the Strategic Initiative team responsible for supporting efforts to change the policies and practices around the use of plastic across the globe. This is truly an effort to change the world for the better. In this position you will support Oceana’s global corporate campaigns to get leading companies – including Amazon and Coca Cola – to commit to reduce the use of single-use plastic and help protect the oceans from an ever-increasing tsunami of plastic pollution.
Founded in 2001, Oceana is the world’s largest nonprofit organization focused solely on restoring the resilience and abundance of the ocean. We achieve measurable change by conducting science-based campaigns with clear goals (that we seek to win with three to five years). Our campaign teams are based in Belize, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru, the Philippines, the United States, Canada, the UK, and the European Union. The Associate will help to support the implementation of global campaign tactics in cooperation with Oceana’s national campaign teams as needed.
The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in business, politics, economics, international relations, conservation science, or related field; and at least 3 years working on corporate campaigns in the non-profit sector or on ESG related work in the private sector; or equivalent combination of education and experience. The candidate will have strong research and writing skills and will be familiar with global trade and business issues. They will be a self-starter, able to take initiative and work independently, but also someone who enjoys collaborating and working in a small team environment. An understanding of and experience in shareholder and financial issues is desirable, as well as fluency in Spanish and/or other languages. This position reports to the Director of Strategic Initiatives.
