About the job
The Integration and Application Network (ian.umces.edu) is a global leader in scientific synthesis, science communication, and ecosystem health report cards, with ongoing projects in Australia, Asia, Africa, Europe and North and South America. Our projects seek to engage stakeholders and scientists to create solutions to difficult environmental problems. We are seeking a detail oriented, productive individual that can help advance these types of projects through effective visual science communication and data analysis.
IAN Science Communicators use graphic design, data visualization, and story-telling to support various regional, national, and international socio-environmental projects. We create science communication products for various audiences using printed, on-line, social, and video media. Science communicators will layout and design printed products (newsletters, report cards, reports, books); analyze data using R studio, Microsoft Excel, or GIS; and teach others about science communication in professional and student courses and workshops. Science communicators also support stakeholder engagement workshop planning, organization, and facilitation, and, with experience, will begin to manage projects. Science Communicators have a career progression that begins with mastering the science of science communication, and can advance to include responsibilities in project coordination, project management, and program management.
