Conservation Colorado & Protégete are seeking a Content and Communications Manager based anywhere in Colorado who will play a key role in Conservation Colorado’s efforts to build an environmental movement that prioritizes Latinx issues. In this role, you will elevate Latinx leadership by driving and creating Latinx-centered, culturally relevant, and bilingual content to tell Protégete’s story, expand our membership, shape Latinx public opinion, and win campaigns.

What You’ll Do
Conservation Colorado’s Protégete team is growing and shifting its focus to be on developing leaders in the Latinx community. This new position reports directly to the Protégete Director and is a real opportunity to expand our reach to a state level. You’ll create culturally competent and relevant digital, social media, storytelling, and other innovative communications strategies to engage hard-to-reach audiences. Your role will include:

 

Protégete communications and messaging

  • Work closely with the Protégete and Communications teams to develop and implement a communications plan to establish Protégete as the trusted statewide Latinx source for climate, environmental, and intersectional social justice issues
  • Implement Protégete’s brand and messaging across all communication platforms
  • Direct Protégete’s social media outreach strategy to bring our Latinx social media followers to offline engagement

Culturally competent content & materials development

  • Create culturally competent and bilingual materials for Protégete
  • Create and/or work with Conservation Colorado staff to create a variety of Protégete-focused content
  • Identify message resonance within Latinx and Spanish-speaking communities

Language justice & Spanish language communications coordination

  • Support language justice, translation, and interpretation processes, ensuring that organizational documents are translated properly
  • Manages necessary rapid-response translation when there is not time to outsource

In addition to your regular responsibilities, all staff are expected to participate at some level in organizational priorities including helping in certain fundraising efforts, taking part in our election-related activities, and committing to our organizational efforts around equity & inclusivity.

 

Qualifications
To be successful in this job, you will demonstrate judgment, results-focused work, and efficiency to work well with our team. Fundamentally, we want someone who understands the importance of celebrating Latinx culture and communicating and speaking about complex issues to Latinx audiences, and who has the skills to do that in our context. More specifically, you will have or be most or all of the following:

  • 4+ years’ experience: We prefer you to have experience in some combination of earned media, social media, branding development or messaging, particularly to Latinx audiences; that said, if you have any previous experience in communications, let’s talk.
  • An excellent bilingual (English & Spanish) written and verbal communicator: A love for storytelling, particularly to move narratives or win campaigns along with the ability to understand what connects our communities and create content that resonates across lines of difference in gender, geography, and race is core to success in this role.
  • Adaptability and flexibility: Our campaigns move fast, so you’ll need to be self-driven and able to work in a fast-paced environment that changes quickly to connect our issues to current events to demonstrate the need for action.
  • Ability to conceptualize, propose and execute projects with minimal supervision: This includes being able to manage projects involving other staff who you won’t have formal authority over in order to get the projects completed. Collaboration and teamwork are key.
    Relationship builder:
    You can quickly build rapport centered in trust and mutual respect across lines of difference in order to help people share how climate change, air pollution, and our other issues directly impact their lives.

This position does not have an undergraduate education requirement. This is a full-time job but there can be some flexibility in the exact schedule.

 

Compensation and Benefits:
The full-time salary range for this role is between $60,000-72,000 based on a wage analysis across the organization, with new staff rarely starting at the top of the range.
