Earthwatch is seeking an organized and adaptable Program Coordinator responsible for supporting the creation and delivery of citizen science programs. Coordinators are responsible for preparing participants and coordinating logistics for programs as well as stewarding scientists and partners. This position will support tasks connected to the Sustainable Cities programs. Currently the initiative heavily focuses on Operation Healthy Air (OHA), an international community air quality monitoring program.
The successful candidate will possess exemplary customer service and communication skills, and be able to travel throughout Massachusetts, approximately 2 times a month to help with field-technician duties. The role requires creativity and flexibility in an often fast paced environment. They will work closely with a team of Program Managers, Coordinators, and international programmatic partners to deliver on the Earthwatch mission.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Expedition/Grant Coordination
o Deploy small air quality sensors to participants
o Maintain a spreadsheet of deployed Air Quality sensors, monitor sensor functioning and incoming data
o Travel across Massachusetts to help with sensor installation and to attend community meetings
o Collect and distribute materials to and from partners (research contracts, risk management documents etc.)
o Collect and screen participant forms and other materials as appropriate
o Coordinate events logistics (food, venue, transport arrangements, webinars etc.)
o Assist Program Managers with stewardship of scientists, funders, and partner organizations
o Maintain program and participant data in CRM database
· Customer Service
o Field incoming phone calls and emails from program participants including members of the public, community stakeholders, corporate employees, teachers, and students during set business hours
o Work across departments to resolve participant requests and questions
o Provide customer service/tech support to participants who are having issues with their sensors
· Content Creation
o Create and disseminate program materials (project briefing, flyers, emails, website, etc.)
o Contribute content for and edit funder reports.
· Program Outreach
o Conduct outreach and run applications for grant-funded programs
o Build relationships with community leaders to determine community needs and how we can provide support
· Embrace other program delivery and performance roles, as needed
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent life experience; and at least 1 year experience preferably in the non-profit sector, environment, education, sustainability, field research
· Strong independent research, problem solving and writing skills
· Exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail and accountability
· Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, experienced with other relational data bases
· Ability to create and maintain positive relationships with program participants, members of the general public, and staff of varied cultural backgrounds
· Ability to balance multiple priorities and work independently to meet deadlines
· Ability to travel roughly 1-2 times a month, including intermittent nights and weekends
· Access to a person vehicle and valid driver’s license
· Experience facilitating and developing curriculum for experiential learning programs is a plus
· Experience troubleshooting technical equipment is a plus
· Experience with or willing to learn R or other coding languages is a plus
· French and/or Spanish language proficiency is a plus
