Job Title: Postdoctoral Fellow in Integrative Wildlife Science
Job Description: The Postdoctoral Fellow will be working as a member of an interdisciplinary team addressing wildlife conservation and management within integrated socio-ecological systems.
Job Responsibilities: This work is partially sponsored by the Vice-Chancellor and Dean for the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Postdoctoral Fellowship Program, and it is open to outstanding scholars who will contribute to the culture of inclusive excellence within the College, and at Texas A&M University. The Department of Rangeland, Wildlife, and Fisheries Management (RWFM) is seeking applicants with an understanding of the experiences of historically underrepresented scholars in higher education, or those from a non-traditional academic pathway. The candidate will have completed their PhD in wildlife science and management or related field within the past five years. It is the intent of the Postdoctoral Fellowship Program to move successful candidates into tenure track lines as directed hires.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will be responsible for research and service activities related to project design, project management, data analysis, and the publication of peer-reviewed research in high impact outlets. Mentoring of the successful candidate will focus on cross disciplinary collaboration, grant writing, project management, and peer-reviewed publication. The position may require mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students. Funding will be provided for 12 months with the potential for a 12-month renewal.
Integrative Studies in Social Ecological Systems: Research will integrate social and biophysical disciplines to conservation issues such as wildlife health/disease, human-wildlife interactions, common pool resource management, threatened/endangered species, invasive species, habitat fragmentation, rangeland wildlife management dynamics, wildlife restoration, coastal wetland/waterfowl management, and climate change. The Department of RWFM manages several large research stations across the state that reflect differing social-ecological conditions and provide novel opportunities for field-work.
Major duties include: Proactive creation of a self-defined research program. Search for and acquisition of extramural funds, design and implementation of research projects within the applicant’s area of expertise/interest, and collaboration on existing projects with supervisory faculty. Collaboration may include, but is not limited to: Literature reviews, study design, project management, data collection and analysis, manuscript/report writing, student worker supervision, and working with the Project Director for coordinating and managing relevant projects.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Disciplinary training with application to wildlife conservation and management
· Demonstrated knowledge and experience with analytical software relevant to the applicants’ discipline
· Serve on the Department of RWFM Diversity and Inclusion Committee
· Desire to work in cross disciplinary team
· Demonstrated communications skills
· Demonstrated publication record
· Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
· Ability to work independently

Requirements: (1) applicants must be within five years of obtaining the PhD degree, (2) submit thesis/dissertation abstract (1 page), (3) write research, service, and professional development proposal (up to 1,500 words, not including citations), (4) education and background Statement (up to 1,000 words) describing your background and contributions, or planned contributions, to inclusive excellence, (5) curriculum vitae, (6) sample publication or unpublished paper, and (7) names, affiliation, and contact details for three individuals willing to provide a letter of reference on request.
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications
