About the Becca Strelitz Internship Program
The conservation community lost one of its most dynamic members when Becca Strelitz passed away in June 2015. Becca was an intern with Conservation Colorado in 2011 and over time became one of our best and brightest community organizers. Her unmitigated passion for the cause gave her a powerful ability to connect with others and motivate them to act. We are honored to continue her legacy through our internship program.

What You’ll Do
You will report to the Senior Program Associate, working closely with our government affairs team with these areas of responsibility:

• Support in planning & executing annual legislative reception event in February
• Track progress and activity of active legislation
• Draft letters in support or opposition of priority legislation
• Attend coalition meetings
• Perform administrative tasks and duties as required and requested

In addition to your regular responsibilities, all staff are expected to participate at some level in organizational priorities including helping in certain fundraising efforts, taking part in our election-related activities, and committing to our organizational efforts around equity & inclusivity.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for this position has a strong interest in protecting Colorado’s environment and quality of life, state legislation, and has a true desire to learn more about conservation policy and politics. Specific requirements include:

Required

• Detail oriented and well organized
• Persuasive writer
• Commitment to racial equity
• Interest in supporting environmental justice and developing anti-racism skills
• Ability to multi-task and manage short-term and long-term deadlines
• Strong analytical skills for data management

Preferred

• Event management experience
• Working knowledge of Google Drive, Google Docs, and Google Sheets
• Interest in environmental policy and Colorado specific conservation issues

This position does not have an undergraduate education requirement. Spanish/English bilingual is a skill we value, but it is not a requirement. This is a part time job (10-20 hours per week) with flexibility in the exact schedule. Some evening and weekend work hours may occur due to the nature of the legislative session.

Compensation and Benefits:
The Legislative Intern will earn $17.30 per hour.

You will gain direct experience working with seasoned and knowledgeable political and environmental professionals at one of Colorado’s leading conservation organizations. Throughout the course of the internship, you’ll have the opportunity to network at political and environmental events. Additionally, letters of recommendation may also be provided upon request (and course credit, if applicable). Opportunities for full-time employment at Conservation Colorado do occasionally occur, and interns are eligible to apply.
