Located in the beautiful Hudson River Valley, Mohonk Preserve is New York’s largest nonprofit nature preserve. Our mission is to protect the Shawangunk Mountains region and inspire people to care for, enjoy, and explore their natural world. We manage over 8,000 acres of mountain cliffs, forests, fields and streams through four integrated programs – Conservation Science, Education, Land Stewardship, and Land Protection – and welcome over 300,000 members and visitors each year who come to hike, run, rock climb, boulder, bike, cross-country ski, snowshoe and enjoy and experience nature.

As Land & Boundary Steward, you’ll be responsible for the physical patrol, maintenance, and documentation of a portion of Mohonk Preserve’s nearly 80 miles of fee property boundary, as well as the conservation easements in the Preserve’s portfolio, and related tasks.

We are seeking a land protection professional with working knowledge of mapping programs and tools – current ESRI ArcGIS applications (required); other mapping tools, e.g. Gaia, Avenza, (preferred) and ability to read and evaluate the landscape. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in environmental science, land and natural resource management, forestry, or other related fields of study desirable/preferred.

Compensation: $14.00/hour for a maximum of 800 hours; Preserve membership for the duration of the position. There may be an opportunity to work collaboratively with other departments for additional hours, to be discussed.
