Washington Conservation Action (WCA) is hiring for our Fossil Fuel Campaign Manager to work in coalition with organizations and communities across the Pacific Northwest to stop the fossil fuel industry from building new infrastructure in our region. This position emphasizes learning on the job for applied experience conducting policy analysis, coordinating a coalition, tracking a shared budget, and developing and implementing a strategy. Approximately half this position’s time is dedicated to growing professional expertise in management of the existing Stand Up To Oil coalition and working within this coalition around specific campaigns. The other half is dedicated to applied experience around building out a broader transportation campaign and related coalition spaces to advocate for transportation policies and priorities that protect community health, focus on environmental justice outcomes, uphold tribal sovereignty, and meet our state’s climate goals.
This position is a full-time employee, a member of the Climate and Fossil Fuel Program, and supervised by the Climate and Fossil Fuel Program Director. The organization recognizes the unique range of skills required to fill this position and supports gaining expertise through mentorship, training and practice in order to fully realize the impact of this position.

Responsibilities
This position will work within the Climate and Fossil Fuel Program to coordinate the WCA’s anti-fossil fuel work, which is both stopping fossil fuel facility build out and advancing proactive transportation solutions. As skills increase, this position will move from coordination with supervisor’s oversight to more independent management of core responsibilities. This position works with communities that are particularly vulnerable to new fossil fuel proposals to support a transition to clean energy, coordinates the Stand Up To Oil coalition and seeks to leverage opportunities around addressing transportation-related pollution to build more community power and positive, clean outcomes.
- Coordinate the Stand Up To Oil coalition to remain a strong, nimble and effective regional effort. This includes preparing, coordinating and facilitating meetings and strategy sessions; assisting with the coalition budget; and communicating about and with the coalition;
- As skills increase, identify, analyze and engage in policy work related to the threat of fossil fuel infrastructure in our region;
- Collaborate and conduct outreach to partners such as labor, equity and community of color organizations, businesses, and elected officials representing WCA;
- Keep informed on relevant emerging fossil fuel and transportation pollution issues, campaign efforts, and opportunities;
- In coordination with the supervisor, conduct policy analysis, advocacy, and collaborative campaign work around reducing transportation pollution;
- Apply a racial equity and environmental justice approach to position, ranging from policy analysis to coalition engagement and issue identification;
- Evaluate work and adjust and improve efforts as needed.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in environmental science, environmental studies, or public policy.
- Demonstrated commitment to environmental protection with a racial equity and environmental justice frame.
- Ability to grow into leadership role within a coalition, including strong facilitation skills and leading collaborations that build trust and collective power.
- Ability to own, with supervisor’s guidance, coordination of a campaign or complex project, including work plan development, and ability to coordinate simultaneous campaigns.
- In coordination with supervisor and subject matter experts, ability to develop a campaign or body of work to address an emerging issue.
- Ability to work collaboratively with people from different backgrounds and interests.
- Ability to travel across Washington as needed (see Working Conditions).
- Strong communication skills in terms of writing and verbal.
- Strong analytical skills to ensure consistent and precise transmission of perspectives and ideas verbally and in writing.
- Demonstrated ability to perform confidently and comfortably in conflict situations and dynamic environments.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to negotiate between differing opinions and/or approaches.
- Excellent project management skills, keen attention to detail, and good judgment.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.
Desirable Skills:
- Familiarity with legal and policy framework in Washington State for environmental review, infrastructure permitting, and land use.
- Experience working productively with environmental justice organizations, labor, and tribal nations.
- Experience, or willingness to learn, budgeting processes.
- Experience, or willingness to learn, how to evaluate progress and approach of work.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a full time, exempt position with a salary range of $59,000 to $64,000 depending on experience. We also offer a generous benefits package including medical and dental insurance, 401k plan and organizational match of up to 3% of your annual salary, a flexible spending account, paid vacation and sick leave, twelve paid holidays per year, an unlimited ORCA transit pass, professional development and if you work for seven consecutive years you are eligible for a two-month paid sabbatical. Location Information
This position is hybrid (minimum of 40% in the Seattle office) but we will consider an option for being fully remote for those located within Washington State, but outside of mass transit options to our Seattle office. We anticipate this job will involve occasional travel to in-person meetings and staff gatherings at the discretion of the supervisor.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands
This is a full-time position and is expected to work a standard work week of 40 hours. This job requires frequent sitting. Must be able to conduct business in English, though fluency in other languages is welcomed. For remote work, employees must maintain a workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work during scheduled work hours.
