About the job
In support of Wilderness Workshop’s mission to protect public lands, the Field Director leads our land stewardship and recreation work with the primary goals of conserving wilderness and public lands resources and ensuring our public lands are accessible to and enjoyable for all. The Field Director is responsible for leading WW’s engagement in recreation issues, managing our field-based programs, advocating for wildlife conservation particularly in the context of recreation management, and maintaining our field inventory data. This position fundamentally entails developing and maintaining meaningful and collaborative relationships with land managers, recreation users, wildlife experts, elected officials, community members and other key partners and decision-makers.
Over the long term, the Field Director will work to develop a land stewardship ethic in our geography that impassions our members, lends credibility to WW and expands our base, and better positions us to achieve our mission to protect public lands. Key efforts toward that long-term vision will include convening stakeholders in support of responsible recreation and moving our geography toward a sustainable, enjoyable and well-planned recreation system that is designed and managed to minimally impact wildlife and other public lands resources and users. An important aspect of the Field Director’s role is ensuring equitable access to and enjoyment of our local public lands, including by expending WW’s capital as a public lands leader to drive policies and practices that promote equity and by implementing field-based programs that serve all of our community members.
