POSITION SUMMARY

The Diversity and Justice Associate is primarily responsible for supporting the administration of The Climate Reality Project’s diversity and justice team protocols and practices. This role will work closely with the Director of Diversity and Justice Initiatives, who oversees the Climate Reality Project international climate and environmental justice work with the International branches and language accessibility both domestically and internationally.

Under the Diversity and Justice department, the Diversity and Justice Associate will support the organization’s efforts to build a more just and diverse climate movement that centers the expertise and leadership of frontline communities, including those from the Global South. Additionally, this role will support administration efforts, working across teams to facilitate more accessible training content.

Currently reporting to the Director of Diversity and Justice Initiatives, the Diversity and Justice Associate has no direct reports.

The salary for the role is $56,374/year. This is a hybrid position, currently expected to work from Climate Reality’s downtown DC office at least two days per week. This position is within a union-represented collective bargaining unit, and specific terms and conditions of employment will be subject to a collective bargaining agreement between Climate Reality and the union.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

General

  • With strategic direction from the Director of Diversity and Justice Initiatives, assist with the implementation and maintenance of equity protocols for the Climate Reality Project branches.
  • Assist the Director with research on diversity and equity materials for the DEIJ forum.
  • Proofread English and Spanish captions.
  • Support light Spanish translation
  • Provide materials support for recruitment of non-English speaking Climate Reality Leaders
  • Process invoices or reimbursement claims for expenses
  • Support the ideation of long-term engagement strategies as they relate to Diversity and Justice programming for The Climate Reality Project’s programing
  • Assist in curating options for securing subject matter expertise on creating training content for communities with disabilities
  • Work with Director and external vendors to support localization of materials in Global South and training region-focused languages
  • Other duties as assigned

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English/Spanish
  • Demonstrated knowledge of climate, environmental justice and racial justice
  • Technologically proficient – including experience in Salesforce or other CRM system highly desired
  • Able to balance multiple competing projects
  • Lived experience within communities that are marginalized

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Has between 3-5 years of experience in grassroots organizing, education or training
  • Working knowledge of the United States and international environmental justice movement
  • Spanish written and oral fluency
