We are currently seeking a Director of Sustainability to join our team located in Westminster, CO in a hybrid work environment (in home/in office). This role, which reports to Maxar’s Vice President/Deputy General Counsel, requires strong leadership, collaboration and project management skills to advance the Company’s environmental, social and governance (“ESG”) initiatives, strategy, processes and disclosures. You will collaborate with internal team members, and work across the business to identify, collect and synthesize relevant ESG data, guide ESG goal-setting, and develop and track metrics. In collaboration with the Company’s Legal, Compliance, Accounting, and Marketing teams, among others, you will lead the ESG reporting function and communications strategy. The Director of Sustainability will also work closely with the ESG Council, comprised of a cross-functional group of leaders, to develop and mature Maxar’s ESG strategy, regularly assess the Company’s ESG risks and opportunities, and help embed ESG considerations into business operations. Additionally, you will be a subject matter expert and stay apprised of developments and trends in ESG best practices, rules and regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and execute on a proactive approach to identify, centrally collect and store, and synthesize relevant ESG data so that the data is readily available for reporting, auditing/verification, and quantification/measurement
- Lead and project-manage the development and content of the Company’s annual ESG Report, and related communications (e.g., Annual Proxy, periodic SEC reports, website)
- Develop and execute on a plan to survey stakeholders and develop or refresh materiality assessments
- Work closely with internal leaders to establish goals, track progress against goals, and develop metrics to measure ESG performance and build into business plans
- Conduct gap analyses on key ESG disclosures and third-party assessments of the same to identify and prioritize areas of opportunity
- Serve as an integral contributor to develop or refresh the Company’s ESG strategy; scope, define and lead ESG projects and initiatives to execute the Company’s ESG strategy; manage project plans, create dashboards/database tools, present to leaders and escalate risks when needed
- Manage the ESG Council through agenda-setting, development of short and long-term objectives, presentations, and project assignments
- Research and stay apprised of new ESG trends, developments and regulations; develop insights and reports of new developments and regulations to share with Company leadership and/or to educate team members working in various functions and at various levels of the Company
- Drive continuous improvement in Maxar’s standing as measured by leading ESG third-party rating agencies and other stakeholders
- On ESG priorities, messaging and communications, collaborate closely with various teams across Maxar including Internal Operations, Accounting, Investor Relations, Marketing/Corporate Communications and Human Relations
- Conduct outreach across the Company to shape perception, awareness, and interest around ESG and Maxar’s ESG priorities; act as a change agent to help embed ESG into Company strategy and operations
- Prepare ESG updates and presentation materials for the Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors
Minimum Requirements:
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in business, communications, or a sustainability-related field
- Minimum of 8 years of business experience with a minimum of 4 years in a sustainability or corporate social responsibility leadership role
- Experience with the ESG ecosystem including reporting frameworks, ESG standards, and emerging regulatory requirements
