How You’ll Contribute
Reporting to the Chief Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Officer (CDEIO) and working in close collaboration with the Vice President, Strategic Communications, the Director, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Communications (Director) will create and implement a strategic and organization-wide internal and external DEI-related communications plan that contributes to a diverse and inclusive workplace, and effectively tells the Society’s DEI story through its internal and external communications and web and social media strategic presence. The Director will also serve as a strategic advisor to the CDEIO, senior leadership, and Society collaborators with respect to DEI-related communications and strategies.

The Director, DEI Communications will also work closely with the Society’s Communications Division. The Communications Division uses creative and strategic tools to further the mission of the National Geographic Society (NGS), while maintaining our place as one of the world’s most trusted non-profit organizations and global brands. The team is composed of six integrated departments: Engagement and Marketing Strategy, Brand, Creative, Strategic Communications, Executive Communications, and Content and Editorial.

The successful candidate will have excellent oral and verbal communications skills, experience in strategic internal and external communications, and demonstrate a deep knowledge of best practices in diversity, equity, and inclusion, including communicating to diverse audiences. Please note: We encourage you to apply even if your experience is not a 100% match with the position. We are looking for someone with relevant skills and experience, not a checklist that exactly matches the job description. We want to help you grow and in return, you help us grow into a stronger, more inclusive organization.
