{"id":6203,"date":"2026-04-22T15:37:55","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T21:37:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.greenlatinos.org\/?p=6203"},"modified":"2026-04-22T15:37:56","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T21:37:56","slug":"greenlatinos-illinois-commemorates-earth-month","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greenlatinos.org\/es\/greenlatinos-illinois-commemorates-earth-month\/","title":{"rendered":"GreenLatinos Illinois Commemorates Earth Month by Creating New Green Spaces Across Chicago"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>GreenLatinos\u2019 Urban Greening Initiative Shows Climate Resilience Starts at Home<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: 04\/22\/2026<br>MEDIA CONTACT: Cumbia Padilla, Communications Coordinator, 707-382-8113, cumbiapadilla@greenlatinos.org<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>CHICAGO\u2014 <\/strong>In celebration of Earth Month, GreenLatinos is proud to share the growing impact of its Urban Greening Initiative, a community-driven effort advancing climate resilience, environmental justice, and authentic local stewardship across Chicago.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From expanding urban tree canopy and community gardens to bolstering youth workforce development programs and neighborhood compost hubs, the initiative has delivered measurable environmental and community benefits since its launch in August 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over the past six months, the program has:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>More than 100 community members helped shape the future of the Canal Origins Park<\/strong> through surveys, tours, and design conversations.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>89 youth and 24 families engaged in growing food via gardening programs and workshops<\/strong> in Avondale<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Local school in LeClaire Courts launches new community gardens, nature-based gathering spaces, and geodesic domes used for solar workforce training<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>650 students learned about nature and climate solutions<\/strong> via hands-on outdoor activities in renovated school campus<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>30 trees and 9000 sf of rain gardens and native plants <\/strong>planted<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>More than 500 community members participated in tours, workshops, and planning sessions across Chicago projects<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cDuring Earth Month, we celebrate the real impact of our urban greening initiatives. When we invest resources directly into the hands of our communities, our planet heals,\u201d said <strong>Amanda Pantoja, Urban Greening Initiative Coordinator with GreenLatinos<\/strong>. \u201cOur neighborhoods have been caring for the Earth for generations, and this stewardship continues every day in our Latino households and communities.
