\u201cIn California, we know firsthand what it means to be targeted first and hardest by reckless immigration enforcement,\u201d said Pedro Hernandez, California State Program Director.<\/strong> \u201cLong before these tactics spread nationwide, our communities were already experiencing raids, harassment in green spaces, family separations, workplace intimidation - leading to the criminalization of everyday life. These reckless enforcement actions have undermined public health, weakened climate and environmental justice efforts, and tear at the fabric of our democracy by violating basic civil and human rights. Congress must act to stop the abuse of publicly-funded federal actions by prohibiting militarized enforcement tactics, requiring transparency and independent investigations into deaths and civil-rights violations, enforcing strict compliance with constitutional protections, and holding agency leadership\u2014including Secretary Kristi Noem\u2014accountable for unlawful and dangerous actions.\u201d<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
