EPA Moves to Rollback the 2009 Endangerment Finding<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

WASHINGTON\u2014 <\/strong>Earlier today, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed a dangerous new rule that dismantles a foundational pillar of environmental and public health protections. The agency\u2019s action overturns the \u201cendangerment finding,\u201d a landmark 2009 legal determination that gave the EPA the authority to regulate climate-warming pollutants under the Clean Air Act. This finding, rooted in science and upheld by the courts, affirmed that emissions from burning fossil fuels endanger human health and welfare.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By repealing this critical safeguard, the EPA has stripped itself of one of its most powerful tools to combat climate change and reduce air pollution, thereby placing the health, safety, and future of frontline and working-class communities at even greater risk. From deadly heatwaves and rising floodwaters to toxic air and chronic illness, our communities are already on the frontlines of the climate crisis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the announcement of this draconian announcement, GreenLatinos Founding President & CEO, Mark Maga\u00f1a, issued the following statement:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe EPA\u2019s decision to dismantle the endangerment finding is a direct betrayal of its duty to protect our health and environment. This isn't just bureaucratic backsliding, it's a move that puts millions of working-class Americans, specifically frontline communities, at greater danger from toxic pollution and worsening climate crisis.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At a time when extreme heat, wildfires, and dirty air are becoming daily threats, we need stronger safeguards, not fewer. This rollback weakens our ability to hold polluters accountable and defend the right to clean air.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
