Protecting our comunidades<\/strong>: a statement from GreenLatinos<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What began as a predominantly peaceful protest against cruel and inhumane immigration raids evolved into scenes of chaos due to the aggressive and uncalled for use of tear gas, rubber bullets, flash-bang grenades, and pepper balls by law enforcement on nonviolent protesters and journalists. GreenLatinos stands in solidarity with the Los Angeles community, which is currently under the visible threat from ICE, the National Guard, and the Marines. It is unimaginable that this administration would use the United States Military to attack its own people. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our communities deserve safe, just, and dignified treatment, and for their constitutional rights to free speech, the right to assemble, and peacefully protest, to be respected. They should not suffer from  tactics, rooted in fear, force, and division, meant to intimidate and prevent the utilization of these rights. The indiscriminate detention of immigrants and the lack of due process for those who contribute to our nation\u2019s economy and cultural richness have only deepened social unrest. These actions are being used by this administration to distract us from the current federal attack on California\u2019s environmental protections, undermining our public lands, air quality, and public health. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lo que comenz\u00f3 como una protesta predominantemente pac\u00edfica contra redadas de inmigraci\u00f3n crueles e inhumanas, evolucion\u00f3 en escenas de caos debido al uso agresivo e injustificado de gas lacrim\u00f3geno, balas de goma, granadas aturdidoras y bolas de pimienta por parte de las fuerzas del orden contra manifestantes no violentos y periodistas. GreenLatinos se solidariza con la comunidad de Los \u00c1ngeles, que actualmente enfrenta una amenaza visible por parte de ICE, la Guardia Nacional y los Marines. Es inimaginable que esta administraci\u00f3n utilice al Ej\u00e9rcito de los Estados Unidos para atacar a su propio pueblo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nuestras comunidades merecen un trato seguro, justo y digno, y que se respeten sus derechos constitucionales a la libertad de expresi\u00f3n, el derecho a reunirse y protestar pac\u00edficamente. No deber\u00edan sufrir t\u00e1cticas basadas en el miedo, la fuerza y la divisi\u00f3n, dise\u00f1adas para intimidar y prevenir el ejercicio de estos derechos. La detenci\u00f3n indiscriminada de inmigrantes y la falta de debido proceso para quienes contribuyen a la econom\u00eda y la riqueza cultural de nuestra naci\u00f3n solo han profundizado el malestar social. Estas acciones est\u00e1n siendo utilizadas por esta administraci\u00f3n para distraernos del actual ataque federal contra las protecciones ambientales de California, socavando nuestras tierras p\u00fablicas, la calidad del aire y la salud p\u00fablica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
