As outlined in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/lcjf.greenlatinos.org\/reports\/LCJF-Framework-2025-2028_WEB-1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Latino Climate Justice Framework (LCJF<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), Latine households pay<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/assets.ctfassets.net\/ntcn17ss1ow9\/1UEmqh5l59cFaHMqVwHqMy\/e81368fa10d39bbb4b114262aaee5be2\/Lifting_the_High_Energy_Burden_0.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 24% more in median energy costs <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">than white households, are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hispanicaccess.org\/climate-change-heat-drought#:~:text=Latino%20Health,and%20other%20vegetation%20are%20lacking.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">21% more likely to live in urban heat islands<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and one in four Latines live in outies that experience federal disaster declarations for flooding in 2023.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the same time, Latine workers are bearing the brunt of climate-driven job risks. More than <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.annualreviews.org\/content\/journals\/10.1146\/annurev-publhealth-012420-105014\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">83% of U.S farmworkers are Latine<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, making them highly vulnerable to heat-related illnesses, while Latino construction and manufacturing workers are <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/system\/files\/documents\/2021-09\/climate-vulnerability_september-2021_508.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">43% more likely to lose work hours due to extreme weather<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. These disparities are not accidents; they result from decades of environmental injustice, underinvestment and systemic barriers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>That\u2019s why the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsa.gov\/real-estate\/gsa-properties\/inflation-reduction-act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Inflation Reduction Act (IRA<\/a>) has been critical for supporting our communities. The IRA represents the single-greatest historic investment in clean energy, economic opportunity, and climate resilience of our time, directly benefiting frontline communities. Through the IRA tax credits and rebate programs, households can access lower utility bills, home energy efficiency upgrades, and good-paying clean energy jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><br>That\u2019s why the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsa.gov\/real-estate\/gsa-properties\/inflation-reduction-act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Inflation Reduction Act (IRA<\/a>) has been critical for supporting our communities. Through the IRA tax credits and rebate programs, households can access lower utility bills, home energy efficiency upgrades, and good-paying clean energy jobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>But now, these gains are under threat. <\/strong>The Trump administration and its supporters are actively working to roll back the IRA\u2019s critical programs, jeopardizing jobs, health protections and economic progress for our communities. Families in states like <a href=\"https:\/\/floridapolitics.com\/archives\/679453-with-his-signature-gov-desantis-oks-state-obligation-for-346m-in-federal-energy-efficiency-funding\/#:~:text=Ron%20DeSantis%20gave%20a%20thumbs%20up%20to,Act%20and%20the%20Investment%20in%20Jobs%20Act.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Florida<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/climatepower.us\/states-hub\/arizona\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Arizona<\/a>, y <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deq.nc.gov\/energy-climate\/state-energy-office\/inflation-reduction-act\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Carolina del Norte<\/a> have accessed tax credits for rooftop solar installations and energy-efficient appliances, leading to insignificant utility bill savings. These programs are especially critical in extreme weather regions, providing cost relief and increasing energy resilience.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How the IRA Is Helping Latine Communities<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>As mentioned at the beginning, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/system\/files\/documents\/2021-11\/factsheet_hispanic-and-latino.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Latine communities face disproportionate environmental burdens<\/a>, from higher exposure to air pollution to greater vulnerability to climate disasters. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/inflation-reduction-act\/community-change-grants-selections\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">EPA\u2019s $2 billion Climate Justice Grant Program <\/a>funds local projects to cut pollution and strengthen climate resilience, many benefiting Latine neighborhoods. In Texas, a heavily Latino state, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.expressnews.com\/business\/article\/coal-power-plant-solar-battery-conversion-texas-19995155.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">1.4 billion project<\/a> we mentioned before is converting a coal plant into a solar and battery facility, cutting 1.8 million tons of emissions annually. <a href=\"https:\/\/home.treasury.gov\/news\/featured-stories\/the-inflation-reduction-act-saving-american-households-money-while-reducing-climate-change-and-air-pollution\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Energy efficient tax incentives<\/a> are helping Latinos upgrade their homes, potentially saving families up to $14,000 on energy costs. Additionally, we have seen a boom in the clean energy job sector, with <a href=\"https:\/\/climatepower.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2023\/05\/Clean-Energy-Boom-Communities-of-Color-Report.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">43 projects in 2023 alone, generating $28.5 billion in investments and 35,000+ new jobs<\/a>. With Latines making up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.gov\/articles\/doe-report-shows-clean-energy-jobs-grew-more-twice-rate-overall-us-employment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">nearly a third of the U.S. clean energy workforce in 2023<\/a>, these investments ensure that our communities are benefiting and helping lead the transition to a clean energy future&nbsp;<br><strong><br>Acknowledging the IRA\u2019s Shortcomings<\/strong>: While the IRA has delivered critical benefits, some challenges remain in ensuring its programs are fully accessible. Limited outreach and lack of culturally relevant resources have made it harder for frontline communities to benefit, and its reliance on tax incentives disproportionately favors single-family homeowners over renters, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pewresearch.org\/short-reads\/2021\/08\/02\/as-national-eviction-ban-expires-a-look-at-who-rents-and-who-owns-in-the-u-s\/#:~:text=Nationwide%2C%20about%2058%25%20of%20households,Center's%20analysis%20of%20census%20data.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">who make up nearly 52% of Latine households. <\/a>GreenLatinos continues to advocate for stronger implementation and increased language access to bridge these gaps. These challenges present key opportunities for improvement. Now is the time to <em>strengthen <\/em>the IRA and its implementation, not weaken it or roll it back.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Threat of Rollbacks<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite its successes, <strong>the IRA is now under attack.<\/strong> Lawmakers are attempting to dismantle the very programs that have driven economic and environmental progress. Proposals to roll back tax credits and clean energy investments threaten to reverse the gains we\u2019ve made, disproportionately harming Latino families and communities.
