Renowned Community Based Artists to Join GreenLatinos Winter National Summit
Our Winter National Summit is really taking shape! We are thrilled to announce that community based artists will be joining us to help celebrate our Latino culture and the need to fight for environmental liberation for all. These artists will share some of their work and stories through our virtual booths at the Winter Summit. Please read about our exciting line up information below:
Hijos Del Sol Arts Productions is a longstanding, community-based organization providing professional art instruction for children and youth of underserved neighborhoods, including many that are homeless or in foster care, and families seeking a fresh start in the U.S.A
José G. Ortiz is the Founding Director (above) and Lead Art Instructor for Hijos Del Sol Arts Productions. He has worked with thousands of children, youth, and young adults teaching illustration, painting, sculpture, and fabrication. He also creates and teaches mural painting with an emphasis on history, culture, and philosophy with lessons on tolerance, teamwork, and diversity. The over sixty mobile and permanent mural works can be seen on public buildings and structures around Monterey County and beyond.
Beto Conejo (above) is an artist and founder of West Temple Media and West Temple Workshop. Growing up on the lower west side community of South Salt Lake as an undocumented immigrant, Beto recalls being able to help paint murals that were painted in his neighborhood as a kid. He eventually grew into the dangerously real environments of drugs, gangs, and vandalism. Over the period of the last 6 years he has been able to overcome a variety of obstacles to create his dream a reality. He hopes to use this brand as a bridge for Chicanos like himself and his friends to reconnect with the outdoors and their rich cultural history.

Hijos Del Sol Arts Productions es una organización que han mucho tiempo en la comunidad que ofrece instrucción de arte profesional para niños y jóvenes de vecindarios con servicios insuficientes, incluyendo muchos que están sin hogar o en cuidado de crianza temporal, y familias que buscan un nuevo comienzo en los Estados Unidos.
José G. Ortiz es el director Fundador (arriba) e Instructor principal de Arte de Hijos Del Sol Arts Productions. Ha trabajado con miles de niños, jóvenes y adultos jóvenes enseñando ilustración, pintura, escultura y fabricación. También crea y enseña pintura mural con énfasis en historia, cultura y filosofía con lecciones sobre tolerancia, trabajo en equipo y diversidad. Las más de sesenta obras murales móviles y permanentes se pueden ver en edificios públicos y estructuras alrededor del Condado de Monterey y más allá.

Al crecer en la comunidad del lado oeste inferior de South Salt Lake como inmigrante indocumentado, Beto recuerda haber podido ayudar a pintar murales que se pintaron en su vecindario cuando era niño. Eventualmente se convirtió en los entornos peligrosamente reales de drogas, pandillas y vandalismo. Durante los últimos 6 años ha sido capaz de superar una variedad de obstáculos para hacer realidad su sueño. Espera utilizar esta marca como puente para que los chicanos como él y sus amigos se vuelvan a conectar con madre tierra y su rica historia cultural.
