GreenLatinos Deliver Environmental, Climate & Justice Priorities to Capitol Hill

Washington, D.C. — GreenLatinos from across the nation will meet with members of Congress this week as part of Latino Advocacy Week. The GreenLatinos (virtual) Fly-In to Capitol Hill will highlight new GreenLatinos environmental, climate and justice priorities for the Biden Administration.

“Even with a new Congress and a new president, we have to convince policymakers to undo unjust policies and replace them with policy that is more just and more equitable than any ever previously enacted,” said Mark Magaña, Founding President and CEO of GreenLatinos. “The stakes remain as high as ever for our communities and our environment.”

GreenLatinos Policy Priorities:

• Reinvesting in Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities and workers who have been disproportionately impacted by air pollution and climate driven disasters to create a more equitable future for us all.

• The need for equal access to clean, affordable water in Latino communities, including stronger Clean Water Act provisions.

• A voice for Latinos in public land and ocean designations through the 30x30 initiative, including strong support for the Castner Range National Monument near El Paso.

• Protection for our ocean, coastal communities and ecosystem restoration, including green jobs in Latino communities, and ways to curb plastic pollution.

• Phase-out new fossil fuel-powered vehicle sales by 2035 in an effort to protect air quality in our communities.

GreenLatinos, a national comunidad of Latino environmental and conservation champions is working closely with Earthjustice, the Hispanic Access Foundation, and on-the-ground environmental leaders in more than a dozen states, Puerto Rico and Washington, D.C., to demand equity and dismantle racism and win environmental, conservation, and climate justice battles.

GreenLatinos policy advocates as well as GreenLatinos members from Texas, Arizona, Colorado, California, and other states, including youth activists, are available to speak with reporters.
