GreenLatinos Denounces Trump Administration’s Decision to Rollback Clean Car Standards

Washington, DC – In response to the Trump administration’s extreme and dangerous final rule rolling back the nation’s successful, money-saving clean car standards and gutting decades of law under the Clean Air Act, Mark Magaña, GreenLatinos President & CEO, issued the following statement:

“Amidst an unprecedented public health and economic crisis, the Trump administration’s decision to roll back clean car standards now is completely disregarding the health of the public at large, displaying a complete lack of leadership when we need it most. As this pandemic unravels, Trump and the Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Andrew Wheeler continue to abandon science, reason and human decency and instead place Latino communities at risk and endanger our health.

The rollback of car emission standards will increase air pollution and make our communities even more vulnerable to the pulmonary threats of the current coronavirus crisis. Even without a pandemic, the Latino community is already the most impacted as they often live in areas with the highest concentration of air pollution. Our communities should not have to deal with life-threatening air pollution increases that the Trump administration’s clean car rule abandonment will ensure.

Now more than ever, the Trump administration should be focused on strengthening health and economic protections for every community. In the ruling to roll back clean car standards, Trump and Wheeler are further risking people’s lives for the benefit of the corporate polluters agenda. Humanity’s health is continually being placed at further risk and we are experiencing the impacts of this right now.”
