GreenLatinos Denounce the Police Murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, MN and Racist Confrontation Involving Christian Cooper in Central Park, NY

In response to the racist confrontation in Central Park and the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, GreenLatinos issued the following statement:

White supremacy continues to prevail in our country through actions, decisions, and systems that continue to oppress Black people and other people of color. For many of us, this oppression presents obstacles and danger to our daily lives. This past week we witnessed the racist confrontation involving bird enthusiast, Christian Cooper in the Central Park Ramble, NY, the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis, MN by police and following these protests, the unwarranted arrest of AfroLatino CNN reporter Omar Jimenez for doing his job and accurately reporting to the American people.

The act of simply being Black in America is not a crime and it should not warrant suspicion, confrontation, or violence. GreenLatinos loudly repeats the call that “Black Lives Matter."

The work of breaking down systems and actions that uphold white supremacy must continue to be done by all of us. We must ensure that all communities of color have a right to live a full life without the fear of oppression, persecution, or violence based on their race, ethnicity, gender, or sexual orientation.
