Ana Esmeralda González

Texas Community Advocate

Ana Esmeralda González is using her experience in community organizing and leadership development to establish and grow GreenLatinos’ Texas Advocacy Program. Ana Esmeralda recognizes the importance of networks of support for environmental justice advocates because as a first generation immigrant from Guanajuato, Mexico and a first generation graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, she has relied on her community for support and inspiration throughout her life. She has an educational background in Health & Society and Business Administration that complement her first-hand experience with environmental injustices in the Houston area, which she currently calls home. Ana Esmeralda has researched how social determinants of health can be addressed to improve lives and hopes to emphasize the urgency for environmental liberation through her work with GreenLatinos.

Ana Esmeralda worked with Mi Familia Vota to train and connect community advocates to key decision makers at a federal, state, and local level for the past 3 years and believes that frontline community members are experts that should be included in any conversation regarding environmental justice. She looks forward to using her learned experience to empower other advocates throughout Texas to address the issues that are priorities in their own communities and mobilize resources to advance and unify the movement.

Ana Esmeralda has been volunteering with non-profit organizations to facilitate immigration application processes for individuals for over 5 years and is motivated by the hope that our Latino/e communities are all able to live happy and healthy lives one day. In her free time Ana Esmeralda loves to explore her city by checking out local coffee shops, pop-up dance parties, and workout classes at different studios.
