Patricia Garcia-Nelson

Colorado Fossil Fuel Just Transition Advocate

Patricia Garcia-Nelson was born and raised in Greeley, Colorado, where she lives with her son Diego. She works with several nonprofits in Weld County to empower the Latin@ community. She has worked to provide Language Justice in Colorado as an interpreter and translator for campaigns, nonprofits, and small businesses since 2013.

In 2017, she became the sole parent plaintiff in a case against the Colorado Oil & Gas Conservation Commission (COGCC), for the approval of a permit for a 24 well oil & gas site less than 700 from the playground of her son’s school. She has worked with various organizations in Colorado and nationwide to raise awareness about the adverse health impacts of fracking in residential areas. She worked with regulators to increase setbacks from schools, hospitals, and other high occupancy buildings in the state. Patricia has worked with Colorado State University to create community lead air monitoring programs to address environmental racism in disproportionately impacted communities.
