GreenLatinos Statement on the Resignation of Embattled EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt

-- Washington, D.C. - GreenLatinos Founding President and CEO, Mark Magaña released the following statement:

“GreenLatinos welcomes the news of EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt resignation, after months of compounding ethics violations, complete mismanagement of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and attempts to rollback policies put in place to protect the health of communities. For this entire administration, Pruitt has consistently pushed an agenda that gives priority to polluting fossil fuel industries, putting at greater risk the health and well-being of all American families and children and aggressively defying the mission of the EPA.

The same issues that forced him to resign as EPA Administrator should also make him practically ineligible for any future public service and President Trump and his Administration must refuse any future formal or informal counsel from this disgraced public official.

Congress must continue to investigate the unethical actions and practices of Scott Pruitt during his time as Administrator to provide the American people with the transparency and answers they deserve from their public officials. It is imperative that Congress consider the actions of Scott Pruitt and his staff when determining the future course of the Environmental Protection Agency and considering its next Administrator.

The health and well-being of Latino communities across the nation has been threatened by EPA’s inability to complete its mission of safeguarding our environment and serve the American people. Latinos are disproportionately impacted by pollution from oil and gas, inadequate access to clean water, and are on the frontlines of climate change impacts as seen in the 2,400 deaths in Puerto Rico caused by Hurricane Maria and the Administration’s inadequate response.

Pruitt’s resignation is proof that the American people reject harmful impacts to the quality of our air and water and GreenLatinos is committed to challenge all efforts of this administration to repeal crucial environmental protections and will hold Acting Administrator Wheeler accountable on any such attempts. We require an EPA Administrator who is not a climate-change denier and will put the health of America’s families over fossil fuel industries.”
