Development Content Manager, Climate Action Campaign

The Climate Action Campaign, a national coalition of environmental and public health groups has had success in achieving its goal to slow, stop or weaken the attacks on climate, clean air and clean energy. The coalition coordinates national political strategy, communications, and field operations across the country and in 2018, the Campaign has real opportunities to defend current policies and to continue planting the seeds for long-term progress.


The Development Content Manager leads the organization’s production of written grant reports, grant proposals, and presentations for program funders and other high-level stakeholders. He/she is responsible for the development and organization of content that articulates CAC’s strategy, capacities and tactics, and outcomes and accomplishments, tailored for specific audiences.


Primary Duties & Responsibilities                            

The Content Manager is responsible for working closely with the Planning Director (internal), and Campaign Director to develop and maintain language and funder-facing materials that record CAC’s strategic plans and outcomes in comprehensive and creative ways. He/she will be expected to work independently to identify opportunities to strengthen our materials, collect information from program staff, present a compelling picture of our work, and point out inconsistent information to campaign leadership.


Duties Include:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           

CONTENT DEVELOPMENT:                                                                                                    

·       Develop written reports and related materials for program funders and other high-level stakeholders and Steering Committee members. This includes, but is not limited to:

o  Develop and write regular reports on campaign priorities and results

o  Develop and manage slide decks and meeting agendas for funder presentations

o  Gather and provide all necessary information and intelligence (issue landscape as well as plans, needs, strategies) on campaign priorities

·       Manage and strengthen internal processes for content development, including soliciting input from others, communicating needs and deadlines, and documenting approval stages.

·       Ensure development materials align with campaign strategy and operational plans.

·       Copy-editing and formatting of critical documents.

·       Other duties as assigned.



·       Communicate the strategic vision of the campaign to staff, donors, and external stakeholders in a variety of formats, including through presentations and written plans.

·       Support the Campaign Director, campaign co-chairs, and other senior leaders or stakeholders in preparing for funder meetings and presentations by crafting talking points and supporting materials.

·       Provide updates and share briefing materials and reports with staff and other interested parties (internally and externally), at the request of direct supervisor or the Campaign Director.

·       Schedule funder presentations and other relevant meetings.




·       Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution

·       At least 2-4 years of experience in non-profit development, grant reporting, or other writing-centered role

·       Excellent communication skills, including acting as a strong, fast, and accurate writer -- with an ability to distill large volumes of information into essential toplines and display information visually

·       Excellent interpersonal skills, including strong presentation and negotiation skills 

·       Overall interest in politics, news of the day, and building a strong, persuasive case to high-level funders for continued investment in the climate fight

·       Ability to navigate a fast-moving environment and display a strong ability to manage up

·       An understanding of campaign finance, 501c3 and 501c4 structures and permissible activities is preferred, but not required

·       Familiarity with the environmental movement is a plus

·       Demonstrated ability to manage a project through completion and meet deadlines ahead of schedule

·       Demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively in a fast-paced environment, organizing time and evaluating competing priorities

·       Demonstrated ability to represent organizational mission and programs

·       Ability to collaborate effectively or work well as a member of a team

·       Exceptional attention to detail and highly organized

·       Comfort with technology and software, including experience with MS Office/PowerPoint


Working Conditions

•      Mostly Sedentary

•      Travel domestically about two times per year for 3-4 days each
