Position Description:

The Digital Media Coordinator must be a well-organized individual who is comfortable working with diverse constituencies (communities of color, local organizations, businesses, government, foundations, and green groups), working in coalition with grassroots and national environmental organizations, and advocating for and implementing fair and equitable partnership practices with these communities.

Main Responsibilities include:

  1. Develop content (graphics, infographics, etc) related to climate action & other GreenLatinos core policy priorities including water equity, public lands conservation, and clean air.

  2. Utilize social media platforms proactively and creatively to engage GreenLatinos membership.

  3. Advise and develop an action plan for the GreenLatinos overall digital media strategy

  4. The coordinator will be responsible for providing a written assessment including their recommendations. The assessment will review current social media platforms and the performance of posts.

GreenLatinos is a small but nimble team, with no existing digital staff. This is an opportunity to lend expertise and advise a growing non-profit as we build our digital engagement capacity and platforms.

The ideal candidate is self-driven, a team player, and comfortable working within a casual working environment which may at times include flexible working spaces (conference rooms, coffee shops, teleworking, etc.). The ideal candidate will be able to communicate (verbally and in writing) their working needs clearly with their supervisors and other staff to ensure success. The ideal candidate understands that it is critical to uphold professional practices as a representative of GreenLatinos and its network during all work-related functions including travel, receptions, and events. 

The Digital Media Coordinator will report directly to the COO & Executive Vice President and work closely with the National Policy Director. This is a short-term contract with the potential for longer-term employment.

Potential Responsibilities include: 

  • Content Development

    • Develop content to and cultivate a growing list of GreenLatinos members active and interested in our core issues: Climate Change & Clean Air, Water Equity, Clean Transportation, Environmental Justice & Civil Rights, and Public Lands. 

    • Coordinate digital content and strategy to engage GreenLatinos members in community actions such as community education materials, community training, local elected meetings, and advocacy.

    • Assist National Policy Director and other GreenLatinos staff with issue-based digital engagement.

    • Assist in the digital engagement surrounding of GreenLatinos events including receptions, briefings, On The Road: Local Solutions events, the GreenLatinos National Summit, National Latino Environmental Advocacy Week, GreenLatinos Live! and more. 

    • Assist in the digital engagement surrounding GreenLatinos Member Updates including Monthly Webinar, Quarterly Newsletter, Update Emails, Announcements, and more.

  • Manage Social Media Platforms

    • Be an innovator in new ways to get out GreenLatinos message. Explore new mediums and formats for communication (eg: podcast or YouTube show, experimenting with new live streaming platforms, using Facebook Messenger bots in new ways, etc).

    • Engage in digital rapid response strategy, such as launching petitions and running ad campaigns.

  • Advise on digital media strategy

    • Advise on processes including calendar, pace, and targeting to ensure our list is getting timely updates and invitations to take action via email

    • Advise and engage in the coordination of email writing, doing some writing, and supporting other staff and volunteers to write.

    • Advise on processes and systems to manage demands for digital support and make decisions about how to balance competing priorities.

    • Evaluate and analyze data and share recommendations with the team.

    • Develop digital plans for upcoming events, actions, and programs.

    • Advise of digital fundraising opportunities and platforms.

Position Requirements:

  • Skilled at creating compelling content on a short timeline.

  • Comfort and expertise working with graphic design programs (CANVA, Affinity, Photoshop)

  • Excitement to innovate and experiment with digital communication tools.

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously, meeting frequent deadlines and resolving complex issues and competing for needs under pressure.

  • Flexibility around hours to respond to emergent needs (willingness to work some late nights and weekends).

  • At least one year of organizing experience as a staff person or volunteer.

  • Comfort and experience extracting data from national and state/local policy. Preference to those who have experience in the area of the environment but not required.

  • Experience working effectively with diverse communities.

  • Dedication to equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice in the environmental movement.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely via writing and verbally.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license or ID for travel.

  • Must have a personal laptop computer and cell phone to use for work. 

  • Located in Washington D.C. - out of state may be considered. 

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Spanish speaking and writing capabilities. 

  • Experience in creating offline event recruitment plans.

  • Experience managing a 100k+ person email list.

The GreenLatinos’ Climate & Clean Air Program Manager will lead GreenLatinos Climate, Clean Air, Clean Cars, Methane & Mercury programming with support from GreenLatinos staff including the National Policy Director. The scope of this work falls within our Climate & Clean Air, Clean Transporation, and the Environmental Justice & Civil Rights core policy priorities. 

The GreenLatinos Climate & Clean Air Program seeks to educate, mobilize, and train Latino communities to advocate for just and inclusive policy-making, actions, and solutions that address the historic barriers communities experience in their efforts to advance Climate & Clean Air priorities.  These priorities include but are not limited to the following. 

Climate & Clean Air

  • Reducing Methane Waste Pollution

  • Reducing Carbon Dioxide Emissions 

  • Protecting the Clean Power Plan

The Climate & Clean Air Program Manager will focus on deepening GreenLatinos’ work and engagement of its network on afore mentioned issues. They will be responsible for developing and executing a growing portfolio of climate & clean air issue-based advocacy, grant management, programming, and communications. The Program Manager will identify opportunities to elevate the voices of Latino community members in programming, policy, media, and will promote policy and legislative solutions that benefit the well-being of Latino communities within the broader environmental movement, among Latino and ally organizations, with federal elected officials, and the Administration. The Climate & Clean Air Program Manager will work in accordance with the GreenLatinos’ Framework for Civil Rights, Environmental Justice, Health Equity & Public Engagement in its operations, partnerships, and engagement strategies.

Responsibilities include: 

    • Lead on the creation of policy education materials including fact sheets, infographics, legislative updates related to the Climate & Clean Air Program portfolio issues

    • Develop communications content including press statements, social media content, graphics, blog posts, op-eds etc to be disseminated to GreenLatinos members, partners, and the general public on issues under Climate & Clean Air Program

    • Lead GreenLatinos participation in Climate Action Campaign, USCAN, Methane Partners Coalition, Mercury community, Clean Cars Campaign and another climate, clean air & clean transportation specific coalitions. 

    • Work with GreenLatinos staff to develop a strategy and work plan for grants related to climate, clean air, and clean transportation. Programs subject to funding may include the development of grant criteria, submission process, outreach, budget execution, grants management and reporting for grantees. 

    • Serve as primary lead for Climate & Clean Air and Clean Transportation Priority Working Group and expand the capacity of the working group with the assistance of the National Policy Director

    • Work with National Policy Director to plan and implementing congressional meetings/briefings/advocacy training and fly-ins related to issues in Climate & Clean Air portfolio. 

    • Work with GreenLatinos staff to develop a strategy and work plan for the Climate & Clean Air and Clean Transportation Priority Working Group program which may include the development of grant criteria, submission process, outreach, budget execution, grants management and reporting for grantees. 

    • Develop and cultivate a growing list of GreenLatinos members active and interested in climate, clean air & clean transportation issues.

    • Coordinate GreenLatinos members to organize community actions such as community education materials, community training, local elected meetings, and advocacy.

    • Assist National Policy Director and other GreenLatinos staff with funder updates, grant management, and reporting related to Climate & Clean Air Program. 

    • Assist with the preparation of talking points, briefing materials, and reports related to GreenLatinos’ Climate & Clean Air portfolio for GreenLatinos CEO, Board, and GreenLatinos Members when necessary.

    • Assist in the planning and execution of GreenLatinos events including receptions, briefings, On The Road: Local Solutions events, the GreenLatinos National Summit, National Latino Environmental Advocacy Week, GreenLatinos Live! and more. 

    • Assist in the planning and execution of GreenLatinos Members Updates including Monthly Webinar, Quarterly Newsletter, Update Emails, Announcements, and more.

    • Mandatory attendance at the GreenLatinos National Summit, from May 2020. All associated costs will be covered by GreenLatinos.

    • This position will require some travel within the United States. A valid ID or driver’s license required.

Position Requirements:

  • Must hold at minimum a Bachelor's of Arts or Bachelor’s of Sciences or equivalent years of work experience 

  • Comfort and experience analyzing and synthesizing national and state/local policy. Preference to those who have experience in the area of climate and the environment but not required

  • Experience working effectively with diverse communities 

  • Dedication to equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice in the environmental movement

  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely via writing and verbally

  • Ability to develop and maintain budgets and expense reports
