Description & Responsibilities

The Manager will primarily oversee organization-wide recruitment for staff and interns.  Ceres commitment to an inclusive and equitable workplace will require a person who shares a similar commitment and can speak to external audiences about the benefits and opportunities of employment at Ceres.   This job offers an opportunity for a thoughtful, creative, out-going, organized, team-oriented and trustworthy individual interested in talent acquisition to help to build a growing organization.  The position is full-time, located in our Boston office, and will work with and report to the Senior Department Director of Human Resources and Operations.  Primary duties include, but are not limited to:


  • Manage recruitment logistics; including development of job descriptions, organizing kick-off meetings with hiring manager, training hiring managers and teams on interview process, posting open positions, screening candidates, directing applications to appropriate parties, scheduling interviews, conducting exercises for candidates, processing acknowledgements and tracking all candidate activity providing quarterly and annual reports.

  • Oversee intern hiring process (listed above) and partner with other HR staff on intern orientation, with a more expanded role related to managing the 10-week Ceres Summer Intern program

  • Serve as primary recruitment contact with colleges and universities, job sites, and/or placement offices, regularly sharing job opportunities, including internships

  • Partner with Ceres marketing staff to develop materials and increase Ceres online footprint to expand our outreach efforts to attract more candidates, with a particular interest in diversifying our candidate pool

  • Actively develop new relationships with external partners to increase Ceres’ pool of candidates for all positions, with a special focus on building a more diverse pool of candidates

  • Organize Ceres staff to serve as ambassadors in our recruitment practices

  • Working with other HR staff, train Ceres staff on best practices for screening and interviewing candidates, with a special focus on disrupting implicit biases

  • Attend job fairs or recruitment events in the New England region, with the possible option to expand this geographic area in the future

  • Provide logistical support to Senior Director and external recruiter working on senior job searches

  • Expand on current system to track all applications and produce quarterly reports for Senior Director to share with Executive Team

  • Partner with Senior Department Director on improving the recruitment and hiring process for candidates

  • Support other members of the HR team during vacation or other leaves.



  • At minimum, 5 years of work experience, in an office setting, required. 

  • At minimum, 3 years of direct recruiting and hiring experience, required.

  • Demonstrated interest in expanding study in Human Resources field, a plus.

  • Strong project management skills and ability to prioritize projects. Proven track record of successfully completing projects on time and within budget.

  • Sound judgment, sensitivity to diverse constituencies, excellent interpersonal skills, proven ability to demonstrate initiative and motivation.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.  Prior experience as a spokesperson for an organization, a plus.

  • Understand how to manage confidential information in an appropriate manner.

  • Strong ethical sensibility.

  • Interest in building a workplace where inclusion and equity for all people is valued.

  • Well-developed organizational and problem-solving skills necessary.

  • Ability to look at problems as opportunities.

  • Strong attention to detail and good follow-through on projects and communication.

  • Effective presentation style as well as strong speaking and written communication skills.

  • Ability to translate legal, tax or human resources matters into everyday language for staff to understand.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

  • Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Prior experience in a fast-paced, growth-oriented organization, a plus.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, required.

  • Familiarity with a database system, preferred.

  • Desire to work in a mission-driven, non-profit organization, a plus.
